Blogging for Profit

Blogging for profit can be a lot of work, more work than most people are willing put forth. This is why 95-98% of those who attempt to make a living from it fail. There are a couple of different ways to approach it as I have written previously in another post.

One is to become an authority blogger like Darren Rowse aka Problogger. He makes his money from followers who learn from his teaching. He is very good at what he does and many people take off and do well with his style of blogging/teaching.

Then there are niche bloggers who are blogging for profit selling their own products or someone else’s product. These bloggers have multiple blogs in multiple niches. They are not using one blog with many followers, but many blogs and many products.

Whereas, Problogger has a close relationship with his followers most niche bloggers do not do this, but instead are more impersonal sometimes shutting comments down altogether, so that there is no way to communicate with their visitors.

This is fine too, since many visitors are just looking for information or to buy a product and have no intention of communicating. Both styles of bloggers make money just in a different way. There is no right or wrong way to blog, it’s a matter of preference.

Then again, there are some bloggers who have a combo of an authority blog along with a niche. An example of this would be a blog on weight loss where many visitors make comments and ask questions and the blogger answers and helps them lose weight.

As you can see blogging for profit doesn’t always have to be about money, but also communication, information and helping others, which gives it purpose.

Whatever style of blogging you do know that it is hard work and is not easy. There will be many ups and downs and you have to be able to keep going no matter what. If you are not a determined person don’t even try to blog with intentions of making money.

I always recommend a mentor if you want to be like Problogger then follow his blog daily and buy his material. If you want to be a niche blogger then check out the Niche Blogger membership site and find out how to build multiple blogs for profit.

Affiliate Commissions

It’s not that hard to make affiliate commissions the thing that’s hard is to make them on a consistent basis. By consistent I mean making a similar amount of sales each day that you can count on. You would have to be able to do this to have sufficient income.

It make take months or years to accomplish this feat depending on how internet and tech savvy you are. You also need to be a good writer or hire a good ghost writer.

There are many variables, but the main thing you need to do is keep learning and no matter what don’t give up. If you do this then you will eventually make consistent affiliate commissions. The problem is that many people don’t give it enough time.

They quit and go back to working their butt off at some job that can’t guarantee them anything either. I did this for years myself until I started analyzing the big picture.

There is no such thing anymore as job security. I would rather place my future in my hands than a company that has their best interest in mind. If you have given this serious thought then you know that you need to take control and not let someone else have it.

What has all this got to do with affiliate commissions? Well, when you are an affiliate you work for yourself and this places you in control of your financial future.

Any successful internet marketer will testify to this, it’s one of the reasons they do what they do. They want control of their financial future and to make their own job security.

Anyone can do it if they set their mind to it and have a good mentor to show them the way. The right mentor speeds up the process by teaching shortcuts. It takes a long time to learn internet marketing by yourself and make consistent affiliate commissions.

I have had several mentors and am currently with the Niche Blogger being coached by Amy Bass. Click on the Niche Blogger link to see videos and get more info.

Passive Income Online

There are several ways to make passive income online none of which are easy, at least in the beginning. Of course, when you first start there is upfront work to be done, but as you go along it gets less and less, until finally it’s almost on auto pilot.

Then when it gets to this point you can outsource what little bit needs to be done, if you so desire, so that you will be freed up to rest or do more, you choose.

To make passive income online you first need to begin many people think about it, but then decide it’s either too hard or they don’t have the time. I say make time! Even if it’s an hour or two a day you will be on your way to financial freedom.

And to the lazy ones who don’t want to do the work, well, they can go ahead and work for someone else all their life and not have control of their future finances.

The second thing you need to be willing to do is learn the ropes and study search engine optimization you CAN’T be successful online without it, unless you choose to outsource, even then you need to know what’s going on; at least basics.

Once you get just enough knowledge to be dangerous then it’s time to set up a blog/site or two, join the Warrior Forum and get involved with other marketers who can teach you something. There’s a lot to learn folks this is no cakewalk!

Passive income online comes after you’ve put in some blood, sweat and tears. Don’t waste money on scammy products that promise you $1000’s a day that’s dumb! I’m getting real here, so I hope you’re paying attention.

I know what I’m saying is true and if you don’t like it then you need to give up right now. The secret to passive income online is to be willing to do the upfront work.

Whether it’s affiliate marketing, selling your ebooks, starting a membership site, referrals, niche blogging or writing for revenue sharing sites such as Ehow and Suite 101 to name a few. No matter what business model you choose this will be the case.

You can be successful and make passive income online if you’re willing to do what it takes which is put in the time and work necessary.

Online Mentoring

Online mentoring is a must for newbies otherwise way too much time is lost, not to mention money lost on scams because you don’t know any better. How do you know if they’re legit? This is hard to determine at first notice, so that’s why you take your time.

I know, you’re desperate for money so you jump on it thinking this is it! However, this is the worst thing you can do. No, what you do is investigate, also called research, which takes time and effort, but at least you don’t lose your hard earned money.

Where do go to investigate? The first place I go is to the Warrior forum or another work at home forum that I trust and ask about the so called deal by name.

If no one knows anything about it good or bad it’s out. If they say bad stuff it’s out. However, if there are trusted members who give it a thumbs up then I may go for it.

This is why it’s important for you to have at least two work at home forums where you’re an active member. Then you know who the members are that are capable of giving the wisdom you seek. These people have invaluable information and share it willingly.

They are in a sense online mentors, because they have been there and done that and want to give back to the community. They usually love helping newbies as long as they see that the newbie is also working hard and doing their best.

Online mentoring doesn’t have to be one on one and cost a fortune. On the other hand, if you have the money then there are trusted gurus that you can pay for one on one online mentoring. Or you can join their membership site and be mentored as a group.

My advice is join the Warrior forum it’s a great place to find an online mentor. It’s where I found mine. If you read the threads you will find out if the other marketers have respect for your potential mentor if they do then go for it, if not move on.

The mentor doesn’t need to be a big name guru like Frank Kern either, so don’t get stuck there. My mentor ended up being Amy Bass of the Niche Blogger she’s a housewife and mother of four who makes over $5,000 a month just by blogging!

The bottom line is that a good online mentor is invaluable, so you need one.

Blog Method

If you’re going to blog you have to have a blog method. Some may call it a system, no matter what you call it there has to be an order that you follow or else nothing will get accomplished. I’ve been there and done that so I know what it’s like.

If you have a blog method you can start out the day knowing what lies ahead and know what to do next. If you know what comes next you don’t get lost in cyberspace. It’s easy to spend an entire day online and not know where time went.

Time management is a very important key to a blog method being successful. If you don’t manage time online then it hurts your income because time gets wasted. Some of the time wasters are forums, constant email checking, chat rooms and surfing the net.

It’s okay to do these things AFTER you get all your work done. One good way to do it is to write a list of 10 must do’s before you go to bed. I call it my top 10.

Once you do your top 10 you can move on to other tasks including all the things involved in your blog method. You need to know what they are and there needs to be an order they go in so you will get into a habit of doing it then it will become automatic.

For example, if you know you need to write 4 posts, 4 Ezine Articles, back link, add a module to your lens, social bookmarking and who knows what else, then start with the most important first and work your way through the blogging method you’ve created.

Do it the same way or similar each day. If you do this then you will become a successful blogger as long as you’re consistent. It will change a little here and there as you get busier and start outsourcing some of the work.

If you don’t have a blog method you lose focus. When you lose focus you lose money.

At the Niche Blogger Amy teaches us a proven method the same one she used to pay off her $72,000 dollar debt. We know if it works for one it will work for all.

You can sign up for a free 3 day offer at the Niche Blogger just click here and see what it’s like to have a proven blog method.

Make Blogs- Web Hosting and Domain

The web hosting and domain sort of go hand in hand, they’re best friends in the make money online business. They both have control over your visibility online, but one should never use the same company for both and you’re about to find out why.

The host’s duty is to make sure your site is up, running and responsive and to give you support when something goes wrong.

The domain registrar duties are to keep your domain safe, alert you if there’s a problem, and advise you of any wrong doing concerning your domain names. There are horror stories of the host shutting down sites and putting domain names on hold. Which means you can lose both in a matter of minutes. This is why you don’t want to have web hosting and domain with the same company.

When you keep the web hosting and domain separate you can set up your site elsewhere, that is assuming you keep back ups. Then if the site goes down you get another host, change the domain name server (DNS) and your site is back up in a matter of hours. If there’s a freeze on your domain you can’t do it.

If the domain is frozen by the registrar it can be a serious problem. If possible you should try to have multiple top level domains aka TLD’s, so that you can switch to the other version while you work out the problems. It’s good practice to own the .com, .org, .net so that you are prepared for the worst.

You may want to be extra careful and use separate registrar’s for your TLD’s. You can have your .com’s at your favorite company, the .orgs in a second one and .nets at a third. Thus far I keep mine in one place for the sake of simplicity. However, I may change my mind and switch them later.

As you can see it’s in your best interest to have the web hosting and domain with separate companies, especially if this becomes your full time job. Once you start making money online on a consistent basis you may feel like it’s time to put your total focus on internet marketing and quit the job you have now.

Once you have web hosting and domain taken care of you can focus on a plan to make money and the Niche Blogger has a step by step plan, you can try it free here:

The Niche Blogger – Make Money Blogging

I do have separate web hosting and domain. I use One and One for my domains and Hostgator for my web host. Both of them have given great service from the beginning and their prices are competitive as well.

Make Money on the Web

If you want to make money on the web you can if you’re willing to do what it takes to do it. Not only that you must be patient because it takes time. Many people give up way too soon and miss out on a great opportunity to work from home.

Like many other people I too thought it would be easier and faster than it is. Of course, I messed it up myself by fooling around trying to do it without help. It’s like going in to perform surgery without going to med school. Not a good idea!

When you finally do make money on the web that’s when you realize you really can do it. Once you do it you’re hooked! From this point on it’s do or die.

One of the best ways to do is by blogging. It takes work upfront, but in the long run it will turn into passive income working on auto pilot with minimal effort from you.

The most important thing you can do is study search engine optimization and how to use keywords effectively in your writing, it can make you or break you. Don’t try to start up a blog without knowing this vital information.

When you take time to get educated and research you will make money on the web. Once you acquire knowledge of keywords and SEO you can start writing posts.

Then you begin article marketing to drive traffic to your blog. If you don’t know how article marketing works, google bum marketing and check out Travis Sago’s site he has a free ebook that gives you all the instruction you need.

Naturally, it’s best to have a mentor to help speed up your progress. I wish I would’ve had one in the beginning. The great thing is that I do have one now.

You can have one too just Click here to start free or get more information.

Niche Ideas

Niche ideas are sometimes a problem for bloggers and internet marketers. They’re always after a hot niche that will make them a lot of money. One that has a lot of searches and not much competition is usually what they’re looking for.

Then when they find it they won’t reveal it for fear of someone stealing it. After all, that’s how they make their money so I understand that line of thinking.

For all you newbies who are reading this don’t reveal your niche ideas or else you will lose money. There is always someone who has no conscience and will take your niche ideas for themselves. Personally, I don’t use anything without permission.

If you are looking for hot niche ideas here’s a list you can start with:

*Google Hot Trends
*43 Things
*Ebay Pulse
*Ebay Want it Now
*Search.com
*Technorati
*Digg
*Yahoo Buzz
*Clickbank
*Aol Hotsearches
*Coolshopping.com

You never know what you will find in these little gold mines. Whatever you do make sure you do your research and find out if there are affiliate programs for the niche. Preferably ones that are trusted and will pay you. And of course that there is a demand for it.

One of the things I look for is to see if there are adwords bids. If they are paying for ads then it’s lucrative. If not I move on. The last thing you want to do is spend a lot of time on niche ideas and it not payoff. After all, time is money.

It’s also a good idea to choose niche ideas the have a high cost per click(cpc) in adsense, that is if you are going to use adsense. Some of those are finances, legal, loans and mortgage, cancer, golf, solar panels, forex, anti-aging and insurance.

After you have been in internet marketing or blogging for a while you will learn what works best for your sites. Naturally, there will be some trial and error so don’t feel too bad when you make mistakes; learn from it and move on.

Just in case you don’t know and this is the first post you’ve read here. I get most of my info from the Niche Blogger membership site. We have a great forum of people who help each other out and share ideas.

Online Marketing Strategies

Online marketing strategies work if you do them consistently. One of the main problems is that many newbies to internet marketing give up when they don’t get immediate results. There has to be trial and error or at best calculated risk involved.

A plan can be made, but there needs to be flexibility if the plan doesn’t work. Moving on to plan b is part of internet marketing. Not to mention the fact that what works today may not tomorrow. The internet changes rapidly and we have to change with it.

First and foremost you need good web design and development as well as an effective promotion plan. If you don’t have the skills yourself then you have to learn. Naturally, you can pay a web designer to do it for you, but then you don’t know what’s going on.

Secondly, you need to study search engine optimization or your site will be lost in the abyss of cyberspace. You need to be able to write good SEO content. Once again you can outsource this too, but it’s better to learn and know it for yourself.

To rank high for keywords and beat out competition requires much study and hard work. There is no other way to get on the first page of Google and be there consistently.

Building a list is right up there with the other two. When you have a list built half the work is done. Then you can focus on marketing to your loyal followers.

In the meantime while you’re building the list the fourth online marketing strategy is article marketing. Writing and more writing is needed for it to be successful. However, if you’re really good at pre-sell and an have excellent call to action in the resource box you don’t have to write as many articles. It takes time to get this down pat.

Online marketing strategies take much forethought and planning. A mentor helps a great deal without a mentor you can spin wheels for months or years!

My mentors have been Ed Dale of the Thirty Day Challenge, Travis Sago aka the king of Bum Marketing and Amy Bass of the Niche Blogger.

If you follow this blog you know that I am still with the Niche Blogger and have been for 9 months. So far, it’s the best mentoring program I’ve experienced and is why I stay.

Learn SEO First

If you plan to set up a blog or website you need to learn SEO first. Don’t go blindly into it without at least knowing the basics, because you will make really dumb mistakes that will COST you big time! How do I know this? Well, how else? I did it! My first blog, God rest it’s soul, is out there in cyberspace doing nothing.

I fully admit this is due to my stupidity. Now I know, some 8 months later in the deal, what SEO is and continue to study and work on techniques as I go, as all bloggers and web owners should. If not, then we deserve to fall on our face.

Yes, you can outsource it, but many times the so called SEO experts use language we don’t understand and tell us anything. Then follow up with not doing anything as well.

So, I say again learn search engine optimization aka SEO first! If you don’t have any idea what it is then you definitely need to do your due diligence and get busy studying.

If you don’t do this your site will not be found by search engines or people and will be of no benefit to you or anyone else. You may be a great writer with killer graphics and all the bells and whistles, but if the site isn’t optimized then it’s dead in the water.

You don’t have to be an expert just get the basics down. Find a profitable niche using keyword tools then you will know what domain name and title is best. It helps if the title is in the url. The post titles should have keywords as well as the content of those posts.

Everything needs to be relevant using synonyms and LSI this includes links coming inbound. If you leave a comment on a blog make it one that is relevant to your site. Look for high ranking sites to leave comments and ask to trade links with them.

Learn SEO first, it isn’t hard you just need to get the facts and use them. Research and read is the best advice I can give and another big tip is to check out Griz’s site at Make Money for Beginners, it’s a blogspot, but don’t let that fool you, he’s the man when it comes to search engine optimization. If you’re wise you’ll check him out.

And if you’re a complete newbie do the 30 Day Challenge, it’s free and a great way to learn basic internet marketing skills.

I also recommend the use of a mentor and the Niche Blogger is the best place for blog mentoring. You can check it out for 3 days free by clicking here.
