Online Marketing Strategies

Online marketing strategies work if you do them consistently. One of the main problems is that many newbies to internet marketing give up when they don’t get immediate results. There has to be trial and error or at best calculated risk involved.

A plan can be made, but there needs to be flexibility if the plan doesn’t work. Moving on to plan b is part of internet marketing. Not to mention the fact that what works today may not tomorrow. The internet changes rapidly and we have to change with it.

First and foremost you need good web design and development as well as an effective promotion plan. If you don’t have the skills yourself then you have to learn. Naturally, you can pay a web designer to do it for you, but then you don’t know what’s going on.

Secondly, you need to study search engine optimization or your site will be lost in the abyss of cyberspace. You need to be able to write good SEO content. Once again you can outsource this too, but it’s better to learn and know it for yourself.

To rank high for keywords and beat out competition requires much study and hard work. There is no other way to get on the first page of Google and be there consistently.

Building a list is right up there with the other two. When you have a list built half the work is done. Then you can focus on marketing to your loyal followers.

In the meantime while you’re building the list the fourth online marketing strategy is article marketing. Writing and more writing is needed for it to be successful. However, if you’re really good at pre-sell and an have excellent call to action in the resource box you don’t have to write as many articles. It takes time to get this down pat.

Online marketing strategies take much forethought and planning. A mentor helps a great deal without a mentor you can spin wheels for months or years!

My mentors have been Ed Dale of the Thirty Day Challenge, Travis Sago aka the king of Bum Marketing and Amy Bass of the Niche Blogger.

If you follow this blog you know that I am still with the Niche Blogger and have been for 9 months. So far, it’s the best mentoring program I’ve experienced and is why I stay.

Learn SEO First

If you plan to set up a blog or website you need to learn SEO first. Don’t go blindly into it without at least knowing the basics, because you will make really dumb mistakes that will COST you big time! How do I know this? Well, how else? I did it! My first blog, God rest it’s soul, is out there in cyberspace doing nothing.

I fully admit this is due to my stupidity. Now I know, some 8 months later in the deal, what SEO is and continue to study and work on techniques as I go, as all bloggers and web owners should. If not, then we deserve to fall on our face.

Yes, you can outsource it, but many times the so called SEO experts use language we don’t understand and tell us anything. Then follow up with not doing anything as well.

So, I say again learn search engine optimization aka SEO first! If you don’t have any idea what it is then you definitely need to do your due diligence and get busy studying.

If you don’t do this your site will not be found by search engines or people and will be of no benefit to you or anyone else. You may be a great writer with killer graphics and all the bells and whistles, but if the site isn’t optimized then it’s dead in the water.

You don’t have to be an expert just get the basics down. Find a profitable niche using keyword tools then you will know what domain name and title is best. It helps if the title is in the url. The post titles should have keywords as well as the content of those posts.

Everything needs to be relevant using synonyms and LSI this includes links coming inbound. If you leave a comment on a blog make it one that is relevant to your site. Look for high ranking sites to leave comments and ask to trade links with them.

Learn SEO first, it isn’t hard you just need to get the facts and use them. Research and read is the best advice I can give and another big tip is to check out Griz’s site at Make Money for Beginners, it’s a blogspot, but don’t let that fool you, he’s the man when it comes to search engine optimization. If you’re wise you’ll check him out.

And if you’re a complete newbie do the 30 Day Challenge, it’s free and a great way to learn basic internet marketing skills.

I also recommend the use of a mentor and the Niche Blogger is the best place for blog mentoring. You can check it out for 3 days free by clicking here.

Internet Marketing Articles

Internet marketing articles can be very profitable if you’re a good presell writer. If you don’t know how to write with good preselling techniques then you may not do so well. You also need to have a strong call to action, so that readers will click on your link in the resource box. This takes time and plenty of practice if you want to be successful.

Furthermore, you need to have a product that is in demand and it helps for you to know that the product is a good product and that you back it with a guarantee.

There are several techniques internet marketers use that get results. I don’t agree with all of them, but that doesn’t mean they don’t work. First of all, they appeal to emotions and hope to make them, the reader, need what they have to offer.

Then there’s the you can’t miss this deal we’ve cut prices down as low as they can go. Third there’s the scarcity tactic we only have so many of these left. Of course, we can’t forget the old limited time offer trick, it’s only available till blah blah.

These are the top four, so if you presell and make money with internet marketing articles most likely it will be with some sort of variation of these techniques.

Naturally, you will need to know basic SEO, this is a given, so keywords are of major importance if you want to get the article on the first page of Google, Yahoo or MSN, because if you don’t this means no traffic, which equals no sales.

As you can see there’s more to internet marketing articles than one would think and this is only basics. While it’s true that article marketing is the way most IMers start it doesn’t mean that it’s easy, so don’t get discouraged when you don’t make sales right away.

If you’re a great writer and have sales experience it may happen for you quicker. Otherwise, prepare for a long hard learning curve or opt for a mentor.

I always suggest the Niche Blogger for mentoring because it’s affordable and helps cut the learning curve down, so that you can make money easier and faster.

Make Blogs- Blog Ideas

If you’re going to have a blog you also need blog ideas. After all, what are you going to write about? It could be inspirational, informative, funny, educational, newsworthy, gossip or any number of things, but in all of these it needs to be interesting.

If your blog ideas aren’t interesting then nobody will want to come back. So what are some things you can write about that will hold a readers interest?

Here’s a few ideas to get blog ideas. First of all you can check out these sites that have hot topics: ebay pulse, google trends, twitter, CNN, Amazon, Yahoo Buzz, Digg and all the other social sites. These are good places to start.

Then you make a list of your blog ideas so that you won’t have to do it again. After that you check to see if there are any of these that you could do a series on.

Place a check mark next to your choices and if you have a money making blog see if there’s any affiliate programs for those topics. All you need to do is google the name of the topic or product and add affiliate program after it.

Another blog idea is to write the pros and cons or a review. People are interested in the good and bad of most anything whether it’s a product or just plain gossip. They want to hear the juicy details it’s human nature so why not give it to them.

Additionally, it’s always interesting to tell a story. We all like stories, especially the inspirational or motivational ones. If you have stories that capture interest use them for blog ideas. One way to find out is tell it to someone and take note of their response.

These are just a few blog ideas that can help you get unstuck when you’re mind goes blank or if you’re a newbie who is clueless. A little food for thought that will hopefully prompt you to take action. No action = no results.

You have to do it not just think about it. If you don’t know what to do then you need a blogging coach or mentor to show you how. One of the best ones online is Amy Bass of the Niche Blogger. She blogged her way out of a $72,000 debt.

If you want to see how she did it see her story here.

Blog Creation

Blog creation comes into play when you first get the idea to have one. Once you do this then the creative juices start to flow and you begin to search for ideas to blog about. Even if it’s a make money blog you still need to research for a niche and products.

As I have mentioned in other posts you should do all your research and have an outline BEFORE you purchase a domain name. This is important! Or set up a free Blogger blog to give it a trial run. In other words, test your idea, niche and product.

Then if it’s something you feel you will stay committed to and is worthwhile go ahead and buy the domain and set up a Wordpress blog/site with your own hosting.

You can always transport from Blogger to WP, so you haven’t lost anything by testing unless you get stupid and make MFA (made for adsense) sites that are worthless and google shuts you down. Then you have wasted valuable time.

For blog creation you need to do a lot of research to find worthwhile information and to get instruction. Youtube has many tutorials that are free, so there’s no excuse as to why you can’t set up a blog or learn internet/affiliate marketing.

There’s also the Ehow site which has an article on how to do just about everything. They’re another good resource that’s free. In fact, if you need to make extra money sign up and write articles on what you do know and gain experience as well as cash.

Then of course, there’s the 30 Day Challenge it’s free too! You will learn all the basics of setting up a blog/site as well as internet marketing and much more.

Creating a blog takes patience and hard work if you want it to be successful. However, you can make it easier if you don’t try to do it all by yourself, but admit you need help. I know this from experience I wasted months trying to figure it out on my own.

Finally, I came to my senses and did the 30DC, which led me to the Warrior forum, that led me to the Niche Blogger. Now, I have a mentor and don’t have to do it alone.

SEO Writing

If you write online then you MUST know SEO or you will not be successful. For all those who do not know what SEO stands for it’s search engine optimization. All you need to know is that you have to study it and learn how to use keywords in your articles.

There are SEO tools/software you can buy to assist, but you have to know how to use them. Personally, I still just use the google keyword tool it’s free and easy. j

However, after you learn basic SEO writing you still need backlinks to power you to the first page of G. Without those backlinks even the best SEO writer is dead in the water.

I know this to be true. As an experiment some time ago I wrote a well SEO’d article and put it on my blog and also submitted it to Ezine Articles. Guess which one ended up on the first page of G? Of course, the EZ article did. They have google juice/page rank I don’t.

I could get it if I took the time to go after the backlinks, link articles and blogs and a whole bunch of time consuming work that absolutely drives me crazy.

SEO writing isn’t the hard part it’s the other tedious online behind the scenes stuff that’s the killer. So, everybody screams outsource it! Great idea, if you know someone who is priced reasonable and is honest. Good luck online with that if you don’t know anyone.

An SEO writer has to not only have online connections, but those connections need to be with people they trust. The only place I know of to find these connections is online forums. So, you join forums give to the community and build relationships.

Online membership sites also have great forums for people to brainstorm and help one another. The Niche Blogger membership site that I belong to has such a forum.

Blogging for Money

When you’re blogging for money you need to take into consideration many different factors. If not you may end up with no money. You can’t just set up a blog and pray to make money you must have a plan from the get go.

One of the first things you need to think about is how you’re going to monetize the blog/site. Whether it’s a static site or blog this is an important first step. You see, BEFORE you set up a blog you need to sign up for adsense or affiliate programs so that ads will be ready to go when the blog goes live.

I would like to make mention that there’s controversy that surrounds the decision to have ads asap or wait until you have more traffic. I think it’s good to monetize from jump, except for adsense, you may need to wait on them so that you will get relevant ads.

Of course, if you’re planning on using Ebay you need to sign up with them asap, they may reject you so you want to be prepared to have a backup. Amazon and clickbank are good choices as they aren’t so dang picky.

There’s a catch 22 with this, however, because when you sign up they ask for an url from your site and you need to have one. I found that some don’t check the site, but that you just need to have an url. So, I made a quick blogger blog and they accepted that.

You also need to know where to place your ads if you don’t you can lose a lot of money. Blogging for money can be difficult if you don’t make right decisions in this area.

The layout is another concern, not only ads, but colors, clutter and of course content. Content is king, along with another biggie and that’s keywords. If you’re blogging for money keywords and keyword phrases can make you or break you.

Naturally, when I began I knew none of this stuff, none of us do. We have to learn it and it’s best to learn it from someone who has been there and done that.

I fumbled around and wasted a ton of time trying to figure it out on my own. I didn’t get anywhere, but I did try. Finally, I joined Wealthy Affiliate for 8 weeks and couldn’t make heads or tails of that. Then I moved on to the 30 Day Challenge and I did learn basics there, it’s free and a great place for newbies to start.

However, it has been the Niche Blogger that has made a huge difference in helping me to get a grasp on blogging for money. I also benefit greatly from the Warrior Forum.

To sum up, if you’re a complete newbie and want to make money online with blogs you can begin with the 30 Day Challenge which is free or join the Niche Blogger which has a free 3 day trial offer.

Ed Dale is the go to guy in the 30 DC and Amy Bass is the go to gal in the Niche Blogger, both are excellent mentors. Or you can do both since the 30 DC is free, why not? At the time of this post the Niche Blogger is under $25 a month.

Search Engine Friendly Articles

When you write articles on the web then you need to know how to write search engine friendly. This is so important that you need to study it whenever you get a chance. Otherwise your articles just disappear in the abyss of cyberspace.

What is the point of writing an article whether it’s for Ezine Articles or for your blog if it’s not search engine friendly? I’m not an authority on the subject, but I do know that when I write a keyword optimized article it keeps working for me and if I don’t then the article fizzles out after a few views and disappears.

I’m not advocating just writing for search engines either, so don’t think that or do that. There has to be a balance of writing for people and writing with SEO in mind.

Of course, I didn’t know anything about this when I began writing on the web, so my articles were not search engine friendly. Now, however, it’s a different story. I go for balance sometimes I don’t get it just right, but how does one know what that is?

Nobody knows exactly how Google’s algorithms work or what they will do next. So, some of this tends to be a guessing game. I do know if you keyword stuff it doesn’t go over too well. On the other hand, you can blow it by not using enough keywords.

Then there’s the LSI way of thinking which is using synonyms or relevant words to the keywords. I do this too, otherwise the article is repetitive and doesn’t flow.

The bottom line is this you need to research and study search engine friendly use of keywords if you plan to make money on the web writing articles. If you don’t you will be spinning wheels for years, if you last that long. Do yourself a favor and study now!

If you’re a complete newbie then I suggest you join the 30 Day Challenge it’s free and you will learn the basics of internet marketing.

I also recommend the Niche Blogger if you plan to blog for profit so that you can cut your learning curve down by several months. This way you make money faster and easier instead of losing money and wasting time trying to figure it out by yourself.

Don’t Give Up !!

You can make money online, so don’t give up. As long as you keep going you can and will do it. There will be a zillion disappointments, but that’s okay as long as you don’t give up. Trust me, I have had them and still do, but I don’t give up. Are you getting the idea as I keep repeating don’t give up! If you give up you will never do it.

I have been at this now for about a year. A few months back I got disillusioned and put affiliate marketing on hold to write for sites like eHow, Infobarrel and Xomba instead to see what money was to be made just writing online.

It has been an interesting journey and has paid off pretty well. You can make money writing online, but make no mistake you need to learn and know SEO to do it.

Doing this has helped me in many ways to make more money online. It has forced me to research niches and topics I was clueless about. It has improved my writing skills and taught me the invaluable lesson of not putting all my eggs in one basket.

If you’re going crazy and trying to make money online don’t give up, but instead diversify. However, you need to watch it that you are doing too many things at once.

Choose two or three avenues and research them to see if you have an interest. If you force yourself you will certainly give up. There needs to be heart felt motivation.

Making money online is not easy, but it is doable. If you can make $5 you can make $10 and then $20 and so forth. Just don’t give up. It also helps to seek help.

If you have been to this blog before then you know I’m a member of the Niche Blogger and have been for the past 10 months. That is a long time, but it’s a great place to learn how to make money online. A good online mentor is priceless.

Without a mentor you are at the mercy of the internet and scammers. Not to mention, time and money wasted on trial and error. If you’re a newbie online grab the free report to your right and learn more about niche blogging.

Blog Tools

Blog tools make blogging much easier and faster. After all, how can a person blog without blog tools? I suppose you could, but why would you want to? The longer I blog the more blog tools I seem to need. Is this just me or do you do it too?

One of my favorite blog tools is plugins. I cannot imagine how difficult blogging would be without them. For example, what would we do without Akismet to catch spammers? They would literally drive us crazy with their trash.

Some other great plugins are All in One SEO, WP Cache, XML- Sitemap Generator, Feedburner Feedsmith, sociable, WP-Page Navi and the Evermore which I prefer over Readmore. There are many more, however, these are my favorites.

While blog tools make things less difficult they also save us time. I mean take for instance Pingomatic how long would it take for us to put in all those sites every time we post? And what about Social Bookmarker how much time does this save?

Let’s not forget Aweber and Getresponse how crazy would it be to keep up with all your subscribers and do what these tools do with one or two clicks?

It seems that every week or even every day a new blogging tool is created that we must have. In fact, there is no sign that this will stop anytime soon and all the bloggers said, “Thank God.” As a result, we have come to depend on our blog tools.

What an awful thought to think we would have to do all our tedious blogging tasks without blog tools. It may have made us a little lazy too come to think of it.

I say keep on the lookout for new blog tools and if you see something that will save you time, difficulty, money or keep you sane then by all means get it.

The ultimate blogging tool is the Niche Blogger. If I would have not joined I would still be spinning my wheels and going nowhere.

Anyone who is struggling with internet marketing, blogging or making money online can check out the Niche Blogger for three days FREE click here.
